2nd Ridge Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana

The story of Ridge Royal Hotel goes beyond two and a half decades, starting in late 1990 when the facility then known as the Cape Coast Catering Rest House was offered for sale under the government’s divestiture program.
The Catering Rest House, situated on a portion of over 5 acres of land on Second Ridge, included 9 bedroom chalets with a suite, an administrative block, reception, kitchen and an adjoining restaurant. Royal Palm trees stood on both sides of the walkway leading to the chalets; creating a serene, natural setting which we have sought to maintain. It’s from this setting that the name ‘Ridge Royal Hotel’ was adopted for the modern and expanded hotel.
The old facility was built during the colonial days and served as a Guest House for traveling government officials on assignment to and through Cape Coast, as well as to the general public as a place of relaxation. It is reported that the Queen of England spent a night on these premises during her visit in 1961.
